Fort Collins Youth Rugby Girls opened the 2007 season with a 22 to 0 win over Chaparral at Chaparral. The match was played in idea weather conditions but hot on the pitch as they were playing on artificial turf. Match opened with both teams trying to feel each other out to see what the other team had. In the 6th minute of the match after a clearing kick by Fort Collins, Chaparral was called for offsides and Sadie Anderson made the penalty kick to put Fort Collins up 3-0. A few minutes later in the 10th minute the ball was spread wide where Caitlin Chvatal turned the corner and scored the first try of the match to move ahead 8-0 with the conversion failing. In the 19th minute Maddie Robinson picked up a loose ball and split the defense for an 80 metre run and with Sadie’s conversion Fort Collins would go into half up 15-0
Second half saw a better defense by Chaparral with both teams starting to feel the heat and making a few mistakes. At the 22nd minute of the match a clearing kick was chased down by Sadie and the converted try put Fort Collins up 22-0, which would be the final score. Great effort by the forwards that held their own against Chaparral’s pack and also by the backs that kept the defense on Chaparral’s backs making it tough for them to work the ball much.
