The team took a road trip to New Mexico to take on Los Alamos in a league match and with only 15 players available for the trip and able to play defeated Los Alamos 34 to 0.
Fort Collins kicked off to start the match and immediately started to pressure Los Alamos keeping then pinned deep in their end of the pitch. After several near trys Los Alamos tried to kick it out but was returned by Fort Collins and after a pass to Hannah Wilson, she was able to break into the try zone and start the scoring 5-0. Los Alamos played good defense for most of the first half until Sadie Anderson broke a tackle and went in for the score to make it 10-0 where it would stay at half.
Second half saw Fort Collins take control and early on Sadie did a chip kick over the defense that was run down by Maddie Robinson to up the lead to 17-0 with Sadie’s conversion. This continued when the ball was spun out to outside center Alex Clinton and she fought her way in for a try and a 22-0 lead. With about 10 minutes to go in the match Fort Collins was forced to play a player down due to injury but that didn’t slow them down as Sadie followed it up with two more great runs for trys and a conversion to end the match at 34-0.
Another great team effort especially for several players that haven’t had much playing time on the A-side and were forced to step it up and that they did. Overall a good road trip as Los Alamos showed great hospitality both on Friday night with a dinner for us and on Saturday with a post match party that included lunch and showing the Rugby World Cup Final.
